Haliburton Cottage Lake Wedding!
The shining blue waters glistening beyond the laughter of loved ones, pitter patter of feet on the dock and clinking of glasses from a joyous occasion…all come together on this glorious wedding day at the cottage!
Meeting PJ and Matt a few years ago for the first time was when I took photos of them and Matt’s two children. We met at a place close to Lake Ontario. On a cold and windy day, we hiked through the fields and down to the water. Capturing moments as this couple embarked on a journey with Matt’s children I won’t forget. You see I think it’s safe to say, Matt is camera shy. Meaning he’s a normal guy. Before we met the camera might have been more of a “smile and look at the camera”. With me, I let you be yourself and enjoy the moments while I watch and capture.
So, fast track a couple years and PJ contacts me to tell me they are engaged, wedding is to be at the cottage at their and she would like me to be their photographer. I honestly knew right away their wedding was what I love about photographing…real, authentic and beautiful! It was and oh so much more!
On a perfect summer’s day, I made my way up to Twelve Mile Lake, between Minden and Coboconk(I know the Haliburton Highlands area well) to their cottage road. I have to say it was the wickedest road ever!!! When I left at 10:30 at night I grabbed a bag of candy from the candy bar, to eat. Along with that drive home, it was like a roller coaster and even though I like to drive, that road was like something out of a movie…won’t forget that ever.
Anyways, from the moment I saw PJ, all her friends and family and then over to Matt and all the people there, I knew it was going to be awesome. They had PJ’s family from Denmark and family and friends from all over the globe travel and stay with them. Everyone gussied up in some fancy cottage style, but PJ was so glamorous and beautiful! Later the kids all put on their bathing suits and enjoyed some lake fun, while later in the night the guys had some good old fun skinny dipping time. All the ladies rocked and danced the night away on the Edison light strung dancefloor.
Super cute couple, with adorable children, lovely family and friends, delicious food, and everyone having an amazing time! Every little detail was not spared as PJ thought of everything from homemade lawn games, popcorn machine, stylish bar (best Pimms ever), Danish flags in the brownies, moose signage cookies, and so many adorable and personal touches everywhere.
If you can have a wedding at a cottage…do it! Everything can be planned and it all works out. PJ and Matt I honestly and truely believe had a perfect wedding celebration at their adorable cottage. I could not think of any other better way for these two to embark on their journey of happily married life together than a place like this! They rocked and was truely honored to be there documenting what I know they will cherish. Forty years looking back at these photos, the laughs, the sunshine, sore feet from dancing, tears from speeches, hugs, and memories will all flood back…these are the days, the moments to hold onto!
Enjoy a glimpse into PJ and Matt’s wedding! Love, Heather xo
